Job Title: Community Organizer
Location: Clawson, Michigan
Position: Part time, contractual
Salary: $20,000 - $25,000/year

Description:  The Community Organizer is a part time contractual position, who is responsible for completing all duties associated with the implementation of the contract with the Alliance of Coalitions for Healthy Communities (ACHC), as well as other tasks as directed by the Coalition Board.  The Community Organizer will be responsible for organizing community outreach and building community sector and volunteer participation for the purpose of reducing substance abuse and other destructive behaviors, particularly in youth.


  • Basic understanding of substance abuse; training or experience in human services, ATOD prevention or community organization preferred
  • Familiar with or living in the Clawson School District
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated and organized with ability to juggle multiple tasks independently
  • Computer savvy, especially Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong networking skills
  • Knowledge of social networking and ability to work well with the media
  • Ability to get along with a diverse mixture of people
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

Duties: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaboration with existing community groups and students in all schools
  • Conducting assessments as directed by the ACHC and Coalition Board
  • Developing and implementing a logic model, strategic and action plan
  • Keeping all records and submitting reports in accordance with grant requirements
  • Identifying, recruiting and supporting volunteers, especially youth
  • Representing the coalition to diverse constituencies
  • Developing, implementing and evaluating youth coalition activities
  • Participating in all required Coalition and ACHC meetings
  • Developing community partnerships for program implementation
  • Performing other duties as directed by the Coalition Board
  • Reporting to and being supervised by the Coalition Board
