Gift and Memorial Donations
We welcome monetary donations made “in honor of” or “in memory of” of someone special. Each gift book selected by the Librarian will be acknowledged to both donor and recipient, and a commemorative or memorial bookplate will be inserted in the book. Donation envelopes are available in the library. To discuss a special request, please contact the Library Director at 248.588.5500.
Book Sale Donations
The Friends of Blair Memorial Library hold an on-going used book sale in the library, as well as the annual Fall & Spring Used Book Sales. These book sales raise funds which make special programming and purchases possible for the library. We appreciate your tax-deductible donation. We can accept materials that are in good or excellent condition.
We cannot accept the following materials:
- Books that look, feel, or smell DUSTY, MOLDY, MUSTY, DIRTY, etc.
- Condensed books (such as Reader's Digest)
- Self-taped video or audio
- Textbooks (more than 5 years old)
When bringing books or other items to the library, please keep the following in mind:
Donations can be accepted during our regular hours of operation (not in the drop box, please)
Bring donations in containers you don’t mind leaving with us
Personal effects should be removed from books or other items before bringing them in
Donated items will be evaluated individually and may be:
- added to the library's permanent collection,
- sold in our on-going or seasonal book sales (which directly benefit the library), or
- discarded (please see guidelines to avoid this)
For tax purposes, we can provide you with a receipt. Library employees do not assign dollar values to your donated items. Typically, unless an item is purchased new for the purpose of donating to the library, the assessed value is much less than the purchase price.
