Property Tax Information

  Summer Taxes are levied and due July 1 of each year and are payable through July 31, without penalty at the Treasurer's office. To all taxes paid after July 31, one half of one percent per month fee is added.   Winter Taxes are levied on December 1 of each year and must be paid on or before February 14 to avoid a 4% fee.
   Beginning March 1, unpaid taxes are returned delinquent and would be payable at the Oakland County Treasurer's office with additional penalties and interest.
   Summer tax bills can be paid in eight monthly installments. There is a $10 fee for making installment payments. A penalty of one half percent per month, per payment is added if an installment is late. In order to make partial payments, installment booklets must be picked up at the Clawson Treasurer's office before July 31st.
   Senior citizens 62 years and older with a yearly household income not exceeding $40,000 can defer their taxes until February 14 without penalty on their Clawson Homestead Property only. They need to sign the deferment form and return it to our office by September 15th of each year. To download the form click here.

Paying Taxes and Water Bills

  Current year taxes and water bills may be paid via credit card or electronic checking through Official Payments Corporation. Official Payments charges a convenience fee for their service. To make payment online via a credit card click here: www.officialpayments.com. To make payment online via electronic check click the following link: www.officialpayments.com. Credit card and electronic check payments may also be made by phone through the Interactive Voice Response, 1.800.272.9829 (use Jurisdiction code 3253). Water bills may be paid in full or in partial payment at any time.

Water bills may also be paid via direct debit. Please fill out the authorization form below and return to the City of Clawson Treasurer's Office:

   Taxes (but not water bills) may also be paid at the National City Bank branch located at 150 North Main Street in Clawson. No delinquent tax payments or installment payments are accepted at National City Bank.

    A drop box for payments is located at the south entrance of City Hall beneath the Police/Fire Telephone. To avoid penalties or late charges, payments must be received before closing on the date the bill is due.
   When a due date falls on a weekend or a city designated holiday, payment will be accepted, without penalty, before close of the next business day the Treasurer's office is open.


Property Assessments

 


On January 1 of each year the real and personal property located within Clawson is assessed. Assessments are made by the assessor subject to appeal by the property owner.


Animal Licenses

All animals ages four months or older must be licensed. At the request of many residents we are now issuing animal licenses that expire on the same date as the rabies vaccination. The fees are:

$7.50 Neutered or Spayed
$10.00 Male or Female

   A late fee of $5.00 will be added 30 days after the expiration date of the license.
   If the rabies vaccination is good for more than one year you may obtain a license for one year if that is your preference. License renewal may be processed by mailing a check and the rabies certificate to the Clawson City Clerk at 425 N. Main Street, Clawson, MI 48017.

Other Licenses


Licenses such as dog and cat, business, Christmas tree lots, peddlers, coin operated amusement devices, and others are issued in the Clerk’s Office.
   The City Ordinance requires that all peddlers and canvassers obtain a license from the city clerk. Residents are urged to report promptly any door-to-door salesperson who is unable to produce their license. Furthermore, City Ordinance, Sec. 54-3. Hours of Operation, states that “No person shall engage in any peddling or canvassing between the following hours:

1. Between October 1 and March 31 of each year, 6pm–8am
2. Between April 1 and September 30 of each year, 8pm–8am
