Introduction to Clawson Schools
It has been an exciting first semester here at
Clawson Public Schools!
I have thoroughly enjoyed these past few months as your superintendent! For those of you who may not know me, or do not have school-age children, I came to Clawson last summer from East China Schools where I had been Assistant Superintendent. It has truly been a pleasure getting to know the children, parents, and members of our community and I do believe that good things are happening here.
We decided to share a handful of those good things which we hope to publish regularly to keep you informed about your Clawson Schools. I couldn’t be more proud of all of the positive changes affecting our school district. We’re excited to say that in a time of county-wide enrollment declines our numbers are rising and we now serve about 1,8000 students (up from about 1,550 last year). Our test scores, particularly at the elementary schools and middle school levels, are also very strong and our high school teachers continue to do a fantastic job preparing our students for college success. And this year we begin the process toward district-wide North Central Accreditation.
Our district is at the forefront of early childhood education In addition to providing the full complement of preschool programs and half-day Young Fives kindrgarten at Kenwood, we offer free all-day kindergarten at both elementaries. We are also the proud recipients of a $61,000 Michigan School Readiness grant which currently provides free preschool services to qualified Clawson children. And it’s with great excitement that we announce renovations are underway at Baker Center to create childcare facilities for children ages six weeks through fifth grade. Interested parents may contact Jami Fraser at 248.655.4421 for childcare information.
When I walk the halls of our five school buildings I see the smiling faces of our students and faculty, I see creative, thoughtful projects displayed and most importantly I see active learning happening right before me. Nothing could be more rewarding to an educator!
I hope that by sharing just a glimpse of the wonderful things going on in and around our classrooms we remind you how special our community is and why
The Clawson School district is the place to be!
Sincerely,
Cheryl Rogers
