The City of Clawson provides recreation and social services to Clawson’s mature population including a daily lunch program, transportation for medical appointments and shopping. There are also health screenings and tax assistance available.

Join us on the second Wednesday of each month for our monthly birthday luncheon. Please let us know if you will be attending so we know how many to expect at the birthday table! A free lunch coupon will be given to each birthday at our birthday table.


Meals at the Center

 

A balanced lunch is served Monday through Friday at Noon, no reservations required. A $3 donation is suggested. A home-delivered meal to shut-ins is also available. Call the Senior Center regarding qualifications for homebound meals at 248.583.6700.

Medical Equipment


The Senior Center offers a medical equipment loan closet to the community. We have wheelchairs, walkers, canes, crutches, shower chairs and bathroom chairs. Call ahead to make sure we have what you need.



Seniors Transportation


Transportation is available for Clawson residents Monday–Friday between the hours of 8:00am and 2:00pm to the following:

Community Center, Lunch and special programs
Doctor Appointments, Monday–Friday (mornings only)
Grocery Shopping, Clawson Manor, Tuesday, 9am, Residents—Wednesday, 9am
Local Merchants, Beauty shops, banks, credit unions, etc.
Shopping, 1st Monday Oakland Mall
        2nd Monday Target
        3rd Monday K-Mart
        4th Monday WalMart
Local Merchants, Beauty shops, banks, etc., 8am -12pm ONLY to schedule pick-up times. Please call us as soon as you make your appointment. Medical appointments will be first priority.

Who qualifies?
Any person 55+ or any person with a physical disabilty living in Clawson.

What should I do?
Call 248.583.6700 Monday through Friday between 8:00am and 12:30pm to make your arrangements. Please let the dispatcher know if you will need a lift bus.

Where can I go?
Our boundaries will be Long Lake to the north, 11Mile to the south, Southfield to the west, and Ryan to the east. Please note that we will offer transportation to an extended area for MEDICAL appointments only, at a charge of $5. Our extended boundary area is South Blvd. to the north, 9 Mile to the south, Telegraph to the west and VanDyke to the east.

What do I need to know?

  1. When using our transportation please plan to do only what you have previously arranged. Do not ask the driver to alter the schedule.
  2. Riders must be ready and waiting at their door.
  3. We cannot transport for medical emergencies, call 911.
  4. Drivers cannot enter private residences. Assistance with packages will be given to the front door.
  5. Use the same procedure for arranging a ride on the wheelchair lift bus, but let the dispatcher know that you need the lift bus.
  6. Wheelchair riders residences must be accessible or there must be someone home to bring the rider to the bus. Drivers cannot bring the wheelchair over doorsills or down stairs.
  7. There is no cost for transportation, however a donation to the program is greatly appreciated.

FREE HEALTH SCREENINGS

Wednesday, February 24th 10-12.

Focus Care will be at the center to provide FREE screenings for OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea) and PAD (Peripheral Arterial Disease).

MEADOWBROOK Theatre

Wed., March 3rd we will travel to see the performance of "Mind Games".  Cost is $20  Space is limited

BBAC

The Birminham Bloomfield Art Center will be offering a FREE drop in class on Tuesday, March 9th from 11am -1pm.  In March you will be working with clay.  You can drive yourself to this program or get transportation from the Senior Center by calling 248-583-6700.

ARTHRITIS PRESENTATION

Wed., March 10th at 11:30am.  Learn ways to deal with the challenges that living with arthritis can present.

MUSEUM AND LUNCH

Thursday, March 11th we will go to the Clawson Historical Museum for a private tour and presentation.  Following the presentation we will go to "Grumpy's" in Clawson for a fun lunch on your own.  Cost $5 

There are stairs to get in and around the museum but chairs will be available for those who wish to stay on the first floor.

St. PATRICKS DAY LUNCH & ENTERTAINMENT

Wed., March 17th at Noon  Cost: $3

Enjoy a delicious corned beef lunch followed by the fantastic music of Russ Allgaier "The Piano Man".  Remember to wear your green!

LIFE AFTER RETIREMENT

This is a series that will provide an opportunity for those who are retired to get valuable information .  Each session will offer time for socializing with refreshments followed by a presentation on a relavent topic.  Our first meeting WAS CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER AND will be RESCHEDULED FOR Monday, March 22 from 2-4pm.  Our speaker will be Lindsay Citrin from Cooley Law School.  She will provide information on Estate Planning and find out if you qualify for FREE Estate Planning.  Please register for this FREE program at 248-583-6700.   We need to know how many will be attending to have enough materials and refreshments.

KINGS IN THE CORNER

Wednesday, March 24th 1pm  Cost $1.  Come and play this fun and easy card game.  Meet new people and maybe win a prize!

MICHIGAN STATE COOPERATIVE EXTENSION

Robin Danto will be at the center on February 23rd at 1pm to present a healthy living program on Calcium!  Please let us know if you will be attending this FREE program.  Robin shares with us recipes and ideas for healthy easy to make soups. March 30th topic is Healthy Breakfasts.

EASTER LUNCHEON

Wednesday, March 31  Noon Cost: $3

Enjoy a delicious Ham lunch with all the trimmings.  Dust off that Easter Bonnet.  It's sure to be a fun lunch.  Stick around and play Bingo after lunch to finish your afternoon.

LINE DANCING CLASS

Connie Buss will be teaching a new Line Dancing Class on Tuesday's at 1pm.  Cost is $5.  No experience needed, learn new dances each week!

SHARP–Clawson (Senior Home Assistance Repair Program) helps Clawson seniors 60 and older and persons with disabilities with home repairs. The work is done by volunteers and usually involves jobs that can be completed in an hour or two. Labor is free. You must pay for supplies, although assistance may be available if a need exists.  Call 248.589.0334 to put in your request for a repair.  A SHARPvolunteer will contact you, evaluate the job and set up a time for it to be completed. 

SMOKE DETECTOR BATTERY REPLACEMENT PROGRAM through SHARP .  If you qualify for the SHARP program you qualify to have your 9volt smoke detector battery changed for free!  Just call 248-589-0334 to request this service.  SHARP will also be offering a smoke detector with a 10 year warranty and 10 year battery for a NEW LOW PRICE OF $12 INSTALLED.  Just call 248-589-0334 if you are interested in purchasing a new smoke detector and having it installed by a SHARP volunteer!
